About DJ Deeon:

In the early 1990s, DJ Deeon, born and raised in Chicago’s South Side, was one of the pioneers of the ghetto house musical genre.

Deeon referred to the sound as “for the strippers, for the street” and the “stepchild of Chicago house” because it was rough, bouncy, and full of vulgar, x-rated screams and chants.

As the official clubs initially showed little interest in the genre, he organized his events at gyms, played home parties, and distributed mixtapes in the parking lot next to his apartment. The demand eventually reached such a level that his music began to be played in clubs throughout Chicago and the US. His albums quickly reached the UK and Europe after crossing the Atlantic.

Ghetto house, a style of house music fueled by 808 and 909 drum machines and sexually explicit lyrics, was invented in Chicago in the early 1990s by DJ Deeon.

The producer’s contributions to the genre, which include the masterpieces “Bomb 96,” “Wicked,” “Back 2 Skool,” and “House-o-matic,” were acknowledged in Daft Punk’s 1997 song “Teachers.”
