Elmore County is grappling with the tragic incident that took the life of a teenage student, Masen Goggins, who was a promising student at Elmore County High School in a fatal car crash on Harrogate Springs Road. An investigation has been actively underway to identify the factors related to the fatal crash, as the sudden death has spread the wave of shock and grief in society.
How did the incident happen?
According to the press release by the Alabama law enforcement agency, the tragic incident occurred on Harrogate Springs Road east of Wetumpka before noon at around 11:15 a.m. on Friday. The state troopers reported that the teenager was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, which was veered off and drastically flipped over.
The investigation was swiftly started as the incident occurred, and it was investigated by the troopers that the deceased person was not wearing a seat belt, due to which he lost control and died at the scene.
Later, the Elmore County spokesperson verified the victim as Masen Goggins, a 17-year-old Elmore County high school student. The school system also confirmed that another 18-year-old student was injured in the collision.
C response
Richard Dennis, superintendent at Elmore County Schools, released a statement saying that the pastors and counsellors would be available at the Elmore County School to support the students suffering from the news of the distressing incident. The school has also paid condolences to the family of the deceased.
Vigils
Jason Eason, Elmore County High School principal, announced that the vigil in honor of Masen Goggins had been scheduled for Monday at around 7 p.m. at Burt Haynie Stadium. The school has opened the football stadium for a vigil with the support of the students and the counselors.
The investigation has been actively underway to identify further the circumstances and the factors that contributed to the accident.
It has to be noted that the recent accident of a fatal crash was the second incident in Elmore County, where an Elmore County student was killed within two weeks. The 14-year-old teenager, who was a Holtville high school student, passed away in a fatal vehicle crash on 7 December on Lightwood Road in which four other teens in the pickup truck were injured.
