He was also nominated for a Grammy.
His honorary awards include the Honorary Golden Lion at the 1994 Venice Film Festival, the Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in 2001, the National Medal of Arts in 2011, and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.
The octogenarian has also been honored with the AFI Life Achievement Award, the Cecil B. DeMille Award, and the National Medal of Arts.
