Randall Goosby: Who Is He?

Randall Goosby is a young violinist who began playing the instrument at a young age.

He has won several honours and has established himself professionally.

Randall Goosby began violin lessons when he was seven years old, and at the age of nine, he made his solo debut with the Jacksonville (FL) Symphony.

Randall was the youngest winner of the Sphinx Concerto Competition, at the age of thirteen. He received the Isaac Stern Award from Sphinx and has performed twice at Carnegie Hall as part of the organization’s Young Artist Development Program.

In his Carnegie Hall debut performance of Ysaye Solo Sonata No. 3, he “exerted a masterly degree of control and showered a beautiful tone…,” according to the New York Times. For his pure virtuosity, he received a well-deserved standing ovation.”

The violinist also performed as part of “Concerts in Motion,” a series of concerts for the elderly and homebound. And a special performance for Covid-19 Victims called “Project: Music Heals Us.”

He is now playing on a Guarneri del Gesu (1735) that the Stradivari Society has generously loaned him.

Randall Goosby was born to a Korean mother and an African-American father. He is a person of mixed ancestry.

Goosby’s parents first met in Japan. His mother, Jiji, was reared there, and his father, Ralph, was a post-college English instructor.

The pair went to the United States and married, eventually settling in Jacksonville, Florida and starting a family. That was an incredible love tale.
