Reade Seligmann Wife And Wedding Before The Duke Lacrosse Scandal

The Duke Lacross player married his partner a year before the scandal. He is happily married till now, but the travesty occurred a year before their marriage.

The couple and his friends had to go through a rough time. Thus, Duke University paid its dues for false representation and claims toward the boys.

The Duke Lacross case occurred in 2006, a criminal case where the accuser Crystal Mangum, a student from North Carolina Central University, accused David Evans, Collin Finnerty, and Reade Seligmann of rape. The D.A. supported her claim without adequately analyzing the evidence he prosecuted them.

However, the charges were false, the boys only attended a party and drank beer, but they did not commit such acts. The media shunned the boys, and people were already determining them guilty before the judicial decision. The case heightened the interest in racism, sexual violence, media bias, and lack of due process on campuses.

Aftermath Of Duke Lacrosse Case

The Lacrosse players from Duke were arrested due to the accuser’s words. However, the evidence and the claim of Crystal Mangum were all false. Her actions were supported by the prosecutor Mike Nifong who was held accountable for falsifying proof which led to his disbarment and brief imprisonment.

Moreover, Duke University, which brought the case forward against the boys, was liable to pay damages of $20 million to each player. Also, Mangum later dropped the charges and stated it was politically motivated. However, after her infamous case, similar serious infractions happened in her life.

She was arrested for attempted murder with her live-in partner Milton Walker and second-degree murder in 2013 with her boyfriend Reginald Daye, where she was sentenced to 14 to 18 years in prison despite her stating that it was self-defense.

Nonetheless, the boys did not encounter any criminal activities; Reade invested his energy by working as an attorney in a New York-based firm.
