2Upon his 1952 arrival in Britain, he joined the RAF, serving for two years. He then trained at Rada for a year while paying his fees working in coffee bars in the evenings. After writing to George Devine, the Artistic Director of the English Stage Company at the Royal Court Theatre, he was hired as a stagehand.
